Are you looking for someone to capture the best day of your life? Make sure they're the real deal with these questions to ask a wedding photographer.

87% of surveyed brides said they DIYed at least one element of their wedding; the average was 3.

While this can help you save money and give a personal touch to your big day, one thing you shouldn't DIY is wedding photos. After all, you only get married once, and you don't want those shots to be washed out, too dark, or out of focus.

This is one area of the wedding you shouldn't cheap out on, but that doesn't mean you should just hire the most expensive wedding photographer you can find.

Here are the 4 questions to ask a wedding photographer so you choose the right one for your big day.

1. How Much Experience Do You Have?

While it's nice to give someone a chance to practice their new skills, you don't want it to be on your big day.

When asking about their experience, make sure it's for wedding photography, specifically. Shooting for a wedding with tons of people is significantly different from shooting individuals in a studio. So make sure the photographer you're looking at has years of experience in this niche.

2. Do You Have Any Packages?

You don't just want one shot for your wedding. Nor do you want just one standard pose and/or setting.

Because of that, you'll want to see if the photographer has any value packages. Most of the time, they'll bundle together various services and have varied tiers so you can pick the right one for your needs and budget.

3. When Do You Want Your Payment(s)?

Good wedding photographers won't be cheap, so you don't want to miss out on any payment details. If the entire price is too expensive for you to pay off, see if they'll take payments. Make sure you note when the payments are due so you avoid late fees.

You'll also want to ask about the deposit and the due date.

Also, be prepared for the worst. Should you need to cancel and/or get a refund for any reason, you should be clear on what the photographer's policy is like.

4. How Long Will It Take to Get Our Photos?

After the wedding, you're probably going to be waiting on pins and needles for your photos. So much so that you won't be able to sleep.

So do yourself a favor and find out beforehand approximately how long it'll take for you to get them, and by what method (snail mail and/or email).

You might also want to find out other details, such as if you have rights to the images, if they're available online (and for how long), and if you'll get the negatives.
